The Feast of Epiphany

The Feast of Epiphany
Matthew 2:1-12
The season of Christmas is where we get God's gift to the
world, Christ Jesus. The season of Epiphany is where we
get to unwrap God's gift and see the glory of his divine
nature shining through his humanity. Or as one hymn puts
it, Epiphany is "God in man made manifest."
Today, the glory of God is revealed through a star that
leads the magi to Israel. The wise men are astrologers
from a far off land, perhaps sorcerers who practiced magic
and divination- certainly not those whom you'd expect to
fall down before the new-born Lord and worship him with
expensive gifts. But Christmas is all about God choosing
the weak and foolish things of the world to shame the wise,
and humbling the proud, casting the mighty from their
thrones, and exalting the lowly. We rejoice because we too
are those who were far off from God through sin. But we
have been brought near to God through the blood of
Christ to worship him in spirit and in truth.
