NEWS AND NOTES, August 11th, 2019

At St. Paul, Preble

Confirmation Meeting. Pastor Yeager is requesting a meeting with ALL parents of confirmation students for tomorrow (Monday, August 12th) at 6pm here at St. Paul. Our public school confirmation class will start Sunday, August 25th immediately after Service, will last an hour (after Labor Day, we will meet directly following the second Service, again for an hour, ~11:30am- 12:30pm each week) and continue meeting weekly for the year.

We are keeping with the tradition of having 6th-8th grade students in our Sunday morning class. Therefore, for parents of 7th-8th graders at Wyneken, and 6th-8th grade students at other schools, I would like to meet to discuss the details of Confirmation this year. This meeting will be especially important for the parents of our eighth graders, as we need to go over dates, flowers, gowns, etc. for Confirmation in May. Please tell Pastor if you cannot attend.

St. Paul Church Picnic. The congregation is invited to enjoy food and fun at a Church Picnic we will host on Sunday, August 18th. This will begin after the Divine Service on Sunday morning. Pastor Yeager and Jake Miller will be grill masters. Sign up in the narthex to bring food items to accompany the sumptuous fare of hot dogs, burgers, and brats. Also, we are in need of some outside games for the kids. If you have corn hole, spike ball, a volleyball net for outside, or any other fun game, please bring it along.

Noodle Making will be on August 26th, 27th and 28th starting at 7am come and stay as long as you can.  We will have a light lunch each day. Come and join in the fellowship!!

2 Services and Bible Class. On Sunday, Sept. 8th, we will revert to our schedule of two worship services at 8 and 10:15am with Sunday School and Bible Class in between. All eighth graders and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend Bible Class with their youth as part of Confirmation instruction. Also, we welcome those who were confirmed this past year to attend adult Bible Class on Sunday mornings, so that they may receive the Church’s ongoing catechesis and instruction for their faith and life.

New Church Directories for those who got their pictures taken at St. Paul are ready for pick up in the narthex. If you did not get your pictures taken and would like a copy of the directory, please take to pastor Yeager.

Voters’ Meeting and Confirmation, Wedding, and Funeral Policies.

The minutes of July’s Voters’ Meeting are in the narthex. Also, in the packet entitled ‘Pastor’s Report,’ I have three new policies for the Church to consider: a Confirmation, Wedding, and Funeral Policy which will set the guidelines for these events at St. Paul. I encourage every member to read these policies and give me feedback on what you think also needs to be included. I will update these drafts as needed and we will take them to October’s Voters’ Meeting for approval which is Oct. 22. –Pr. Yeager.

The Decatur Circuit

Circuit Forum. The LCMS national convention has recently concluded in Tampa, FL. We give thanks to the Lord that he continues to provide faithful leadership and guidance to His Church. As is the custom, we will be having a circuit forum for our circuit delegate, Rev. Shayne Jonker, to discuss the impact of resolutions which passed (or did not pass), and what the impact will be to the local congregations. The forum will be open to anyone who wishes to attend, both pastors and laity. The meeting is scheduled for 25 August at 3PM at St. John, Bingen. Please join us.
