Serving Christ During the Week
NEWS AND NOTES August 5, 2018
Today would normally be a Communion Sunday, but with a guest preacher today, and communion next Sunday at Pastor Brege’s farewell, today’s service will follow the Order of Matins (219ff).
This Thursday (1:30pm) will be Pastor Brege’s last Woodcrest Communion Service.
We welcome today Rev. Mark Steiner (wife: Deborah) as our guest preacher. Rev. Steiner served years ago as a Field Worker at Bethlehem, Ossian. Rev. Steiner is currently Advancement Officer at the Seminary. We pray the Lord’s blessings on Rev. Mark and Deborah Steiner as they serve the Lord in their respective vocations.
Note today’s calendar for Pastor Brege’s District obligations in the coming week. He and Lynn will leave for a District/Synod event next Sunday afternoon. Even though next Sunday is Pastor’s farewell Sunday, yet he will be in and out of the church as he continues to transition his books, etc. Pastor also plans to be at our Wyneken 50th Anniversary.
You are invited to the installation of Rev. Christopher Maronde at St. John, Bingen this afternoon at 2pm. A reception will follow in the Bingen Parish Hall.

In honor of Pastor Brege's dedication to 36 years at St. Paul Preble Lutheran Church, we would like to gather in his honor to show appreciation for all the years of service. We will be gathering at Wyneken Cafetorium, August 12th at noon. Prior to dining, a few people are invited to speak. Since Pastor Brege has touched so many lives in his 36 years, we are asking for an RSVP to assist in planning for everyone interested in dining. RSVP for food must be received by 8/5/18. RSVP by visiting this site: https://pastorbrege.eventbrite.com or by contacting Nick Hoffman at 260-402-2016.

Recall that each family with their Wyneken children must attend at least 14 services at the church to retain their member tuition status.

You are cordially invited to attend an Evangelism Conference sponsored by the Indiana District’s Council of Congregational Outreach and hosted by Trinity Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, Indiana on September 7 and 8, 2018. The theme of the conference is “Confessing Christ in a Contentious Culture: Speak the Truth in Love (Ephesians 4:15).”
"Prayer list" for members to use as they bring the needs of others before God's throne of grace: Cathy Terhune has miraculously shown improvement; Marilyn Harvey; Rae Fuhrmann (long time Wyneken teacher).
Crafty deceitfulness tosses many about concerning life issues (Ephesians 4:14). Christians see more than debates and regulations. At stake are safety and eternity for members of our one body in Christ (4:16). For their sake we speak and show truth in love (4:15) according to our God-given vocations (4:11-12). We take courage that it changes hearts and saves lives even if we suffer for it (4:1). Bread of Life, build us into a body of hope. Amen.
The lessons for next Sunday are I Kings 19:1-8 ; Eph.4:17-5:2; John 6:35-51.
Saint Paul Lutheran Church
Sermon: When God's people forget that every good and perfect gift comes from above, they begin to grumble and complain to Moses. God the Father still cares for the bodies and souls of His people with gifts from above. The greatest gift is the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bread from Heaven.
