NEWS AND NOTES, September 15, 2019

At St. Paul, Preble

100th Birthday of Mrs. Malinda Bieberich is September 18th of this year. St. Paul is hosting a small party for Malinda at Adams Heritage on Wed., Sept. 18th at 10am. All are welcome to join us. We would also like to have a card shower for Malinda on her birthday. Pastor Yeager is collecting the cards - feel free to leave them on his desk.

Gently Used Sale Sept. 20 8am-4pm and Sept. 21 8-11am.  Hosted by The Ladies’ Aid.  The sack sale is $2/bag. Noodles will be on sale also.  Donated items may be brought after 2nd service the 15th and not later than 4pm Thursday the 19th. Be sure to invite friends. Thank you.

In Bible Class we have begun a new study on the Book of Psalms, with an emphasis on the use of Psalms in prayer. I will bring in some wisdom from C.S. Lewis, Bonhoeffer, and of course Luther on the Psalms as well as some of the Church fathers. This will be an excellent time to come to Bible Class if you don't already as we begin a new series of study in the Word of God. The goal is also for your daily prayer and devotional life to be enriched by this study. -Pastor

Acolytes. September's schedule is listed in the newsletter. As always, if your acolyte cannot make the service, please make arrangements to have a substitute. Also, it would be helpful if all parents would let Pr. Yeager know what services their acolytes would be willing to assist- early, late, or both. It will help with scheduling. Thanks.

Elders, Council, Voters' Assembly. Pr. Yeager will be absent on the date we originally selected for Council and Voters, Oct. 21-22 due to Pastor's Conference. A new date of Oct. 28-29 for these meetings is proposed, barring any objections.

Pick Up Your Dish in the kitchen. We have some very nice dishes which will go to Gently Used on Sept. 20 if they go unclaimed.

 High School Youth

All Youth Event today Sept. 15th at 6:30pm at the Selking’s pond. All youth (grades 6-12) are invited to Emily and Evan Selking’s pond for an afternoon of fellowship and food. Swimming, fishing, paddle-boating, and a variety of outdoor activities will be enjoyed. Join us!

Higher Things Conference 2020. At our annual youth group planning meeting, we decided to attend the Higher Things Conference next summer. The Conferences will be held at four locations across the country. We settled on the Conference happening at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, July 14-17, 2020, because of date and location.

If you are interested in going, please contact Pr. Yeager. We are only at the beginning stages where we are gathering names at this point. More information concerning registration fees, fundraisers, etc. will be forthcoming. We are seeking to fund this event by several avenues, including a Lutheran Foundation Grant. If you would like to learn more about Higher Things, go to www.higherthings.org. Thank you.
